12.67 lakh new members were added in ESIC scheme in April, more than five crore people joined in 5 years


New Delhi . About 12.67 lakh new members joined the Social Security Scheme of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in April, 2022. This information has been received from official figures released on Friday. This latest data is part of the report ‘An Employment Perspective on the Salary of Employees in India – April 2022’ released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

According to these figures, the total number of new employees joining ESIC reached 1.49 crore people in 2021-22 while in the year 2020-21 this figure was 1.15 crore. Earlier, in the year 2019-20, 1.51 crore and in 2018-19, 1.49 crore new members were associated with it.

Total number of new members 6.61 crore
This report states that during September 2017 to March 2018, 83.35 lakh new members were added to the schemes run by ESIC. At the same time, from September 2017 to March 2022, the total number of new members included in this scheme of ESIC has been 6.61 crore.

This NSO report is based on the salary-payment data of new subscribers joining various social security schemes run by ESIC, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

About 5.37 crore new members added in 5 years
According to this report, 17.07 lakh members joined EPFO ​​in a net in April, 2022. At the same time, between September, 2017 to April, 2022, about 5.37 crore new members have been added. The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to extend the health insurance scheme ESI across the country by the end of 2022. At present the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme is fully implemented in 443 districts and partially in 153 districts. A total of 148 districts are not under the purview of the ESI scheme yet.

In the 188th meeting of ESIC held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, it was decided to expand the medical facility and service supply system across the country. This decision of the government is expected to benefit the working class people.
