Fast pace of telecom sector, 5G subscribers in the country will reach 500 million by the end of 2027: Report

New Delhi . Telecom sector in India is growing rapidly. 5G will be the fastest growing player in this. The number of 5G customers in the country will reach 500 million by the end of the year 2027. This figure will be 39 percent of the total mobile phone subscribers. This possibility has been expressed in a report by Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson.

The Ericsson Mobility report states that the commercial launch of 5G network in India is planned in the second half of the year 2022. In the initial phase, this is expected to increase the capacity of mobile broadband.

Rapidly increasing mobile data traffic
The report predicts that by the end of 2027, the number of customers using 5G networks will exceed 40 percent of the total mobile phone subscribers. Thiev Seung Ng, Head of Network Development, South-East Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, said, “The total mobile data traffic in the India region is expected to grow four-fold between 2021 and 2027. This is driven by the high growth in the number of smartphone users and the increase in the average usage per smartphone.

Data consumption is increasing rapidly
The average data traffic per smartphone in the India region currently ranks second worldwide. Apart from this, it is estimated to increase from 20 GB per month in the year 2021 to about 50 GB per month in the year 2027 which shows an annual growth of 16 percent.

5G service coming soon
The use of 5G technology has not even started in India but in the next five years, about 40 percent of mobile users will be using 5G technology. Globally, this ratio is projected to increase to 50 percent in the year 2027. 5G technology is expected to be used primarily for content streaming, real-time video analytics and control of autonomous vehicles and drones.
