Gopalkrishna Gandhi Decline Opposition Presidential Candidate: There is a lot of confusion among the political parties regarding the presidential election. Meanwhile, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has refused to become the presidential candidate on behalf of the opposition. Gopalkrishna Gandhi said that he is very grateful for the offer of his name on behalf of the opposition parties. Refusing to become the Presidential candidate, he said that the opposition should consider some other name, which can prove to be a better President than me.
Former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Monday became the third person to have refused a presidential candidate’s request from opposition parties. On June 15, on the speculations of being made the presidential candidate from the opposition, Gopalkrishna had said during that time that it is too early to make any comment on this.
What did Gopalkrishna Gandhi say?
Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi said in a statement issued on Monday that after considering his candidature, I see that the candidate of the opposition should be such that apart from opposition unity, national consensus and national atmosphere should be created. Gopalkrishna Gandhi said that I think there will be more people who will do a better job than me. That’s why I have requested the leaders that such a person should be given an opportunity. India should get such a President, as the last Governor General was Rajaji (C Rajagopalachari) and the post which was first graced by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Former bureaucrat Gopalkrishna Gandhi has also served as India’s High Commissioner to South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah have also denied
