New Delhi. The 7-seater car Kia Carens, launched by Korean carmaker Kia at the beginning of the year, has suffered a major setback in terms of safety. Recently it got only 3-star rating in Global NCAP crash test. This model has got 3-stars in terms of safety for both adult and child passengers.
The Kia Carens is a made in India car. In which all the basic safety features are available. This includes electronic stability control and a total of six airbags including two front airbags, two side-body airbags and two side head protection airbags.

Know how was the test?
As per the crash test data, the Kia Carens displayed an ‘unstable structure’. It provided only marginal protection of the driver’s chest, while performing poorly in terms of protection of the driver’s legs. Global NCAP also noted that the car lacks a three-point seat belt on the rear central seat. Instead, a lap belt has been given in the car.

Overall, in terms of adult safety, the Kia Carens has managed to score a total of 9.30 out of 17. According to a report released by Global NCAP, both the structure and the footwell area of the car were found to be ‘unstable’. At the same time, in the case of child occupant protection, the car scored a total of 30.99 out of 49. As per the Global NCAP report, equipped with ISOFIX mounting points and child restraint system were also in place and well marked.

The car could not achieve the correct safety rating
It needs to be noted that Kia despite being a global car brand could not achieve a much safer rating for its Carrens MPV in India. Global NCAP Secretary General Alejandro Fures said, “We expected better performance from this model. It is a matter of concern that global car brands like Kia, which usually enjoys 5-star ratings in other markets, are still not reaching this level in India. ,
