Ration card portability implemented across the country, Assam becomes the last state to join ONORC


New Delhi. Assam has finally started the Ration Card Portability service and with this the Center’s ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ ie ONORC (One Nation, One Ration Card) program has been implemented across the country. . The Food Ministry has given this information on Tuesday.

Under ONORC, beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) can get their quota of subsidized food grains from any electronic point of sale device (ePoS)-equipped ration shops of their choice. For this they have to use their existing ration card with biometric authentication.

Assam becomes 36th state/UT to implement ONORC
The ministry said in a statement that Assam has become the 36th state/UT to implement ONORC. With this, the ONORC program has been successfully implemented in all states and union territories, making food security ‘portable’ across the country.

ONORC scheme was started in 2019
The Narendra Modi government started the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme in August 2019 to provide ration to all the citizens of the country from the government ration shop of any state. The government has also launched ‘Mera Ration’ mobile application to take maximum benefit of One Nation, One Ration Card scheme. This app is providing real time information to the beneficiaries. It is currently available in 13 languages. So far the app has been downloaded more than 20 lakh times from Google Play Store.
