New Delhi. The technical testing of the country’s first Rapid Rail (Regional Rapid Transit System) is starting from next month at the Duhai depot in Ghaziabad. The Rapid Rail has derailed six coaches that reached Ghaziabad from Gujarat. Engineers of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) attached the coaches of Rapid Rail. Work is being done expeditiously towards starting technical trials.
RRTS Chief Public Relations Officer Puneet Vats said that at present, power lines, OHE and other equipment are being finalized in the depot. Testing on the track is likely to begin by November. The trial will run on the track for three to four months. After this, by March 2023, Rapid Rail will start running on the first section from Sahibabad to Duhai.
In the technical test to be held at Duhai Depot, all the systems related to the inside and operation of the train will be tested. The internal-bay line has been prepared inside the depot for technical testing. In addition, the depot has 11 stabling lines, two workshop lines, three internal-bay lines (IBL) and one heavy internal cleaning line with one workshop and one internal-bay line in the final stages.

An 82 km long rapid rail corridor is proposed up to Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut. The construction work of 29 Rapid Rail is being done expeditiously at Alstrom Plant in Sanwali, Gujarat. 13 trains will operate in the first section of 17 km long from Sahibabad to Duhai. After this, the second section from Duhai to Meerut South is likely to start in October 2023.
