Hardik Pandya Team India: Team India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been made the captain for the T20 series against Ireland. In IPL 2022, Pandya helped Gujarat Titans get the trophy in their first season. Throughout the tournament, Pandya was leading Gujarat from the front, taking charge with the bat at number three or four, something he rarely got to do in his previous franchise Mumbai Indians.
Pandya was a prolific player for Gujarat, scoring 487 runs in 15 innings at an average of 44.27 and a strike-rate of 131.26. Even with the ball, he took 3/17 in the final at Ahmedabad’s home ground, which proved to be a match-winner.
Mohammad Kaif was also at the Narendra Modi Stadium on the day of the final of IPL 2022 and he was impressed to see the captain Pandya. He said, “I was on the field for the final in Ahmedabad. I saw him captaining live there. His field placement was excellent, because the way his players performed under pressure, it was commendable.”
Kaif, who has represented India in 125 ODIs and 13 Tests, sees Pandya as a promotion to India’s captaincy and as a reward for proving his leadership credentials as captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. lets see?.
He said, “When he captained, I saw Hardik Pandya as a player, he did a great captaincy. Because after winning the toss, he chose to bowl depending on the conditions. Sometimes he batted first, he scored the target. Chasing the batsmen as well as the bowlers. Also, his form was very important, he was batting at number three and four, coming into the power-play and bowling a few overs and batted till the end. Played an important role in the team.
He further said, “Hardik did a good job with the captaincy and if you look at Gujarat Titans, you can say that they were not the strongest team after the auction. Some other franchises did a good job, but Hardik did a good job. Well done for Gujarat.”
While Pandya’s role in India’s T20 squad will require a finisher like Dinesh Karthik, Kaif sees both as players who will be instrumental in winning the T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November. Pandya and Karthik shared a 33-ball 65-run partnership in India’s 82-run win over South Africa in Rajkot, which proved decisive in the hosts’ victory.
