Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the most popular young cricketers in India right now. The left-handed batter has made a name for himself with his top-quality performances in domestic cricket and IPL. He came into the limelight after an excellent run with India U-19s during the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020.
Jaiswal soon made his Indian Premier League debut for the Rajasthan Royals franchise. The left-handed batter could not impress much in the first two seasons of his Indian Premier League career, but the RR team management retained him ahead of the mega auction.
The decision proved to be the right one as Jaiswal emerged as a match-winner for the Rajasthan Royals this season. He was dropped from the team after the first few matches, but he made a comeback to the playing XI and cemented his place in the Rajasthan Royals team.
I had to give it in English: Yashasvi Jaiswal recalls his first interview
It is a well-known fact that the cricketers have to speak in English for interviews at ICC tournaments. After Jaiswal did well in one of the matches of the U-19 World Cup, he had to give an interview in English.
While he has learned the language and has given multiple interviews now, he was not so comfortable back then. During a candid chat with ESPNCricinfo, Jaiswal shared the details of his first interview and said:
“My best feeling was when I gave an interview after the first match in the U-19 World Cup. I had to give it in English. That was the funniest. I did well [in the match] and then when I did the interview and went to the dressing room, everyone was laughing. I was really struggling!”
Jaiswal will be in action soon as he will play for Mumbai in the ongoing knockout round of Ranji Trophy.
