Presidential Election 2022: The activities between the political parties have intensified regarding the presidential election. Meanwhile, the search for the presidential candidate of the opposition is over. A meeting of opposition parties was called today regarding the presidential election. After the meeting, the name of former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has been announced by the opposition as the Presidential candidate. An opposition meeting was held today under the chairmanship of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, in which Yashwant Sinha’s name was agreed upon.
Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha is a former bureaucrat and a senior BJP leader. However, in early 2022, he joined West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. Earlier, Gopalkrishna Gandhi had refused to become the presidential candidate, rejecting the offer of the opposition.
Yashwant Sinha will be the opposition’s presidential candidate
A meeting of opposition parties was called today regarding the presidential election. After the meeting, the name of former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha was announced by the opposition as the presidential candidate. Earlier, Yashwant Sinha resigned from the Trinamool Congress. He had also tweeted in this regard and said that to work towards opposition unity, he has to move away from TMC. Yashwant Sinha also thanked Mamta Banerjee.
Gopalkrishna Gandhi turned down the offer
Former West Bengal governor and Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Monday became the third person to decline a request from opposition parties to be a candidate for the post of President. In a statement issued on Monday, he had said that after deliberating deeply about the candidature, I find that the opposition candidate should be such that apart from opposition unity, national consensus and national atmosphere should be created. Gopalkrishna Gandhi had said that I think there will be more people who will do a better job than me.
Sharad Pawar also denied
Earlier, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had also refused to become the presidential candidate on behalf of the opposition. On June 15, TMC President and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had called a meeting in Delhi to reach a consensus of opposition parties to discuss the presidential candidate. Although TMC President Mamta Banerjee had also met Sharad Pawar before this meeting, but he turned down the offer to become the Presidential candidate.
Farooq Abdullah has also denied
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah’s name was also in the news for the opposition’s candidature in the Presidential Election 2022, but he also expressed his desire to become the Presidential candidate from the opposition. The offer was turned down. He had said that Jammu and Kashmir is at a very crucial juncture and he wants to remain in active politics now. However, he had thanked West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamta Banerjee for the proposal of his name.
